Internal Namespaces

The internal namespace is what you use for your intranet. In the DNS examples, you have used the internal namespace used by Fullerton Information Services, fis.local. You do not have to separate your internal and external namespaces. The internal DNS zone name can be the same as your external namespace. In the next section, you look at the pros and cons of separating the internal and external namespaces.

Several RFCs on DNS naming standards are available, including RFCs 1123, 1034, and 1035. The basics, however, are a–z, A–Z, 0–9, and the hyphen (-).
