Automating dcpromo

Windows 2000 has a broad capability for scripting and automation. Whether it is VBScript logon scripts, Windows Management Instrumentation, or automated setups, Windows 2000 is very scriptable. Virtually everything is available through either a COM interface or simple scripts. You can script the promotion of a server to a domain controller with nothing but dcpromo and a simple text file.

Running dcpromo with an answer file is easy. Simply type dcpromo /answer:answer.txt at the command line, and you are on your way. This assumes, of course, that you have a properly configured answer file in the same directory in which you are running dcpromo.
