Creating Solids from 2D Polylines

Let's start by drawing the cylinders and arched slot. You will want to create the primitives, or the basic features that make up the part. In this case, the primitives are the two cylinders, the arm and the reinforcing web part of the arm. Then you'll use the Boolean operations to join them together.

Example: Creating the Primitives

  1. Open the drawing ch23_01.dwg that was copied from the accompanying CD. In this example you'll create the base for the grinder vise shown in Figure 23.1.

  2. Using the polyline profile for the base, you'll extrude the polyline to form the base primitive. From the Solids toolbar, select the Extrude button shown in Figure 23.2.
