In the past, both external references and imported raster images have had the status of second-class citizens in the AutoCAD production environment. This is clearly no longer the case. Numerous enhancements have made these once somewhat limited objects flexible and easy to incorporate into AutoCAD 2000 drawings.
The combination of clip boundaries and demand loading has improved the performance of oversize external references, and the addition of in-place reference editing has added greater flexibility to the use of xrefs. Images can be positioned, cropped, and scaled with accuracy like any other drawing object—and most importantly, the user can now draw on top of imported images and use them as a practical basis for their vector drawings. ...
