Introduction to Blocks

A block is a set of AutoCAD objects grouped together as one object, known also as a block reference. When you define a set of objects as a block, it makes the drawing more manageable. Rather than numerous separate objects, many objects that form a particular part or fixture can be grouped together to create a block. For example, the lines that make up a door and the arc of the door swing can be combined to create a door block, just as the lines and arc drawn to make a pump or switch can be merged together to form a pump or switch block.
