Converting Older AutoCAD Drawing Files Containing Polylines
A new type of polyline, called a lightweight polyline, was introduced with Release 14. These new polyline objects replace the older polyline elements found in drawing files prior to Release 14. Because of the way the vertex information was stored, the older polylines added considerably to the overall file size. These polylines have been reworked to create the newer type of polyline, which act just like the older polylines but take up less space—thus the term lightweight polyline.
By default, when an older drawing file is opened in AutoCAD 2000, the older polylines are automatically converted to the newer type of polylines.
