Working with Prompting Forms

Word enables you, the form creator, to ask users a series of questions, and to automatically fill out their forms based on the answers. This technique is very useful when it comes to filling out a contract or other document that has a lot of boilerplate text surrounding a few changing entries. To build a form that prompts the user, follow these steps:

  1. Click where you want the form field response to appear, then choose Insert, Field to open the Field dialog box.

  2. From the Categories list, select Mail Merge.

  3. From the Field Names list, select Fill-In.

  4. Click in the box after the field code { FILLIN }, and type the prompt you want the user to see. Be sure to include it in quotes (see Figure 25.11).
