Inserting Pictures Directly, Without Clip Gallery

There's no law that says you must use Clip Gallery every time you want to import a picture. If you intend to use an image only once, it's often faster to insert the image directly into your document. To do so, first choose Insert, Picture, From File. Browse to, and select, the image file you want to use. The Preview window at the right side of the screen shows a large preview of the image (see Figure 20.24). When you're satisfied with the image you've chosen, click Insert.

If you prefer to insert only a link to the original image, click the down arrow next to the Insert button, and choose Link to File. The image will still appear in your document, but your document will be smaller because ...
