Using the Mail Merge Helper

To help organize and structure the mail merge process, Word provides the Mail Merge Helper, shown in Figure 14.1. The Mail Merge Helper guides you step by step through a mail merge. To open it, choose Tools, Mail Merge.

Note

If the Mail Merge command does not appear on the Tools menu, click the double arrow at the bottom of the menu and wait a moment until it appears.

Take a quick look around. The Mail Merge Helper shows the three main tasks you need to perform:

  • Preparing a main document

  • Preparing a data source

  • Creating the settings for—and then actually running—your mail merge
