Very often the best run departmental networks are those that have a knowledgeable networker among the regular members of the group. Some corporations are moving heavily toward decentralizing a portion of their MIS personnel. Instead of having specialized people concerned with only one aspect of the enterprise network, such as dedicated wide-area technicians and others who deal only with telephony, they are hiring (or cross-training) people for more general use and assigning them to specific departments.
