Using PC Card Devices
Many notebook computers contain one or two special bus slots called PC Card slots (formerly PCMCIA slots) that accommodate adapters (the size of a credit card) for various functions. Although initially only flash memory cards were available in PCMCIA format, today many types of devices—including modems, hard disks, network cards, sound cards, and other devices—are available in PC Card/PCMCIA format. In addition, PC Card docking stations enable you to use PC Card devices in desktop computers, making it possible, for example, to use the same PC Card modem in a notebook and a desktop computer.
