Personal computer networking continues to be one of the fastest-growing areas in the PC marketplace. Many large organizations are downsizing database applications to personal computer networks. Downsizing means moving a database system that runs on a costly, large-scale computer, such as a mainframe, to smaller, lower-priced computers—usually server PCs running network operating systems, such as Windows NT Server 4.0.
