There’s one more perspective that the mind’s eye can see that you can capture with a lens: the close-up. Although our ability to see small objects up close can degrade significantly as we age, when we were kids, many of us could look very closely at ants and other small objects and study them in detail. You can return to those days with a good close-up or macro lens, capturing minute detail and making mundane objects into fascinating works of art.

Sony makes two lenses that serve this need: the 100 mm f/2.8 macro and the 50mm f/2.8 macro. Both are capable of 1:1 reproduction, meaning that the object of your focus will appear life-size on your sensor.
