Chapter 9. Managing data lifecyle with
InfoSphere Warehouse
In this chapter we describe how to manage data through the data lifecycle so that
service objectives can be adhered to in a cost-effective manner.
The data lifecycle relates to how data is stored, maintained, accessed, and
archived while relevant to your business. The frequency with which data is
accessed and why data is accessed changes as the data ages within the
database. The volume of activity associated with data is referred to as
data
temperature and the temperature of data cools as it ages.
The value of data as an asset to the business depreciates over time. In this
context the cost of maintaining and accessing data as it ages should decrease so
that the total cost of ownership for your data warehouse is effectively managed.
