Chapter 9. Maximizing Your Use of Templates

One of the most important tasks you have as a SolidWorks Administrator is creating and updating templates for all the document types in SolidWorks for your users. Templates are not difficult to create, but the main part of the work is simply building in the settings and custom properties that will make your users' job easy. In this chapter, I pull together discussions from Chapter 8 on standardization of settings and Chapter 13 on custom properties to set up several of the issues that we will deal with in this chapter.

The most difficult types of templates to set up are drawing templates and formats, but by the end of this chapter, you will have several good examples as references.

SolidWorks software generates default templates if you ever find yourself in a situation where your regular templates are lost. You should never find yourself in a situation where you cannot move forward because you do not have a template file. You may not have the particular template that you want to use, but you can always make changes later on.
