Objectives

This chapter is all about Solaris file permissions and explains how to interpret file permissions and how to alter them. It also explains how (and why) files get an owner and a group and how these may be changed. In most cases this will probably be enough information to effectively manage the permissions on a Solaris server, but for those instances where a more complex set of permissions is required, the chapter will also cover Access Control Lists (ACLs).
