Summary

Installation consists of three phases: system configuration, system installation, and post-installation.

During the system configuration phase, basic information about the system is identified. This information can preconfigured using the sysidcfg file or a name service.

Solaris can be installed directly from the Solaris distribution CD or over the network using a remote server that has the Solaris distribution CD in its CD-ROM drive or a copy of the files from the Solaris distribution CD on its hard disk. The over-the-network installation can be used with any installation methods (SunInstall, WebStart, JumpStart, or Custom JumpStart) and requires an install server and possibly a boot server.
