halt, poweroff — Stop the Processor

/usr/sbin/halt [-dlnqy]
/usr/sbin/poweroff [-dlnqy]

Description

Use the halt and poweroff commands to write out any pending information to the disks and then stop the processor. poweroff removes the machine's power if possible.

halt and poweroff normally log the system shutdown to the system log daemon, syslogd(1M), and put a shutdown record in the /var/adm/wtmpx login accounting file (changed from wtmp in the Solaris 8 release). These actions are inhibited if you specify the -n or -q options.

Note

halt does not execute the rc0 scripts as do shutdown(1M) and init(1M).
