INTRODUCTION TO ICMPV6

To meet the requirements of the new version of the IP protocol, a new version of the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is also proposed (commonly known as ICMPv6). ICMPv6 is defined in RFC 1885. Its header has a structure similar to the ICMP header used in version 4 of the IP protocol, and it has the fields found in Table 9.5.

Field Description
Type This 8-bit field identifies the type of ICMPv6 message.
Code This 8-bit field shows some parameters with the Type field.
Checksum This 16-bit field applies to the entire ICMPv6 message.
Parameters This 32-bit long space is used for different parameters.
