REVERSE HOSTNAME RESOLUTION

Reverse hostname resolution is used to find an IP address when a hostname is specified. Almost all the hostname resolution methods are used for both forward and reverse hostname resolution.

NOTE

Reverse hostname resolution is also used for security purposes. For example, Sendmail will not accept mail if it cannot resolve incoming mail server names. This feature prevents spamming.
