THE TCP/IP SUITE OF PROTOCOLS

The Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, more commonly known as the TCP/IP protocol, is not a single protocol. It is a family of many protocols that work together. The combination of all these protocols is known as the TCP/IP protocol stack or protocol suite, because these are built upon one another. All these protocols are open and designed to work on the Internet. In this case, open means that there is nothing proprietary and anybody is allowed to use these protocols and develop products based on them. All the information about the design and implementation of TCP/IP is open and public. In many cases, you can find source code for different implementations.
