Setting Up an NIS+ Root Server

The first step in establishing an NIS+ domain is to set up the root master server. The following section describes how to set up an NIS+ root server by using the nisserver script with default settings, which are listed below.

  • Security level 2 (DES)—The highest level of NIS+ security.

  • NIS compatibility set to OFF (instructions are provided for setting NIS compatibility).

  • /etc files or NIS maps used as the source of nameservice information.

  • admin.domainname is used as the NIS+ group.

Setting up an NIS+ root master server requires the following tasks.

  • Running the nisserver script.
