write — Write to Another User

Synopsis

/usr/bin/write user [terminal] 

Description

You can use the write command to send a message to the terminal of an individual user. When a windowing system such as CDE or OpenWindows is used, each window is considered a separate login. If the user is logged in more than once, the message is directed to the console window.

The write command reads lines from standard input and writes them to the terminal of another user. When first invoked, it writes the following message to the user.

Message from sender-login-id (sending-terminal) 
 [date]...
