timex — Time a Command; Report Process Data and System Activity

Synopsis

/usr/bin/timex [-o][-p [-fhkmrt]][-s] command

Description

The timex command, provided as part of the sar package, provides better diagnostic information than does the time command, especially for shell scripts that spawn child processes. By default, timex provides the same real, user, and sys times as the time command. In addition, it provides additional options to display the process accounting data (-p), the disk block use (-o), and total system activity data (-s) if the process accounting software is installed.

The timex command displays its results in seconds to standard error.

Note

Process records associated with command are selected from the accounting file
