ftp — File Transfer Program

Synopsis

/usr/bin/ftp [-dgintv][hostname] 

Description

The ftp command is the user interface to the Internet standard File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Use ftp to transfer files to and from a remote network site.

You can specify the client host with which ftp is to communicate on the command line. If you do so, ftp immediately tries to establish a connection to an FTP server on that host; otherwise, ftp enters its command interpreter and awaits instructions. When ftp is awaiting commands, it displays the prompt ftp>.

Use the following steps to transfer files from your local system to a remote system with the ftp command.
