du — Summarize Disk Usage

Synopsis

/usr/ucb/du 
/usr/ucb/du [-a][-s][filename] 

Description

The /usr/ucb/du command, provided for BSD compatibility, displays the number of kilobytes contained in all files and, recursively, directories within each specified directory or file name. If you do not specify filename , then the current directory (.) is used.

A file that has multiple links is counted only once.

Entries are generated only for each directory in the absence of options. Unless you use the -a option, filename arguments that are not directory names are ignored.

Note

If there are too many distinct linked files, du counts the excess files more than once.
