The Domain Name System is the Internet’s “service of services.” Without DNS, most if not all user services would not function. Without working DNS, there would be no World Wide Web, no e-mail, no anything. This might be a bit of an exaggeration. You could say that you could always use IP addresses instead of the usual domain names, but that is true in theory, not in practice—not in the real world of the ever-expanding Internet.
