Summary

IP Security Architecture (IPsec) is an important part of Solaris 8. It provides transparent strong security at the Internet Protocol (IP) layer, thus protecting all upper-layer protocols. IPsec is a solution for most security issues on TCP/IP networks, encrypting and authenticating every IP packet. This chapter introduced IPsec and its features, showed you how to configure IPsec, and showed you how to create IPsec-based Virtual Private Networks. You also learned how to use the two Solaris 8 IPsec configuration utilities— ipseckey(1M) and ipsecconf(1M). Most common problems with IPsec were described, and recommended solutions were provided in the man pages.
