IPSEC IS A SECURITY ARCHITECTURE FOR the Internet Protocol. IPsec is available for both IP version 4 and version 6. It works at the IP level (the Network layer of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Reference Model). IPsec, unlike other network security solutions, is transparent to upper-level protocols and applications.
