Remote Vulnerability Testing: Nessus

This chapter would be incomplete without mentioning Nessus, a free open source network security scanner. Nessus may remotely scan and check any IP-connected system for available services, known problems, and vulnerabilities. Moreover, thanks to its design, it can also very efficiently scan and check large networks in addition to single hosts. Nessus has a number of scanning options and techniques. Depending on the particular circumstances, it can use different techniques to detect and identify available nodes and services.
