Solaris is a general-purpose operating system intended for general-purpose computers. This means that allowances for different configurations, requirements, and uses must be made by its developers. It is also a flexible operating system—it may be configured in a way that best suits a particular environment. The default configuration of Solaris 8 is intended to be optimal for most common situations. However, as you might appreciate, that approach does not work in all cases.
