Nessus is a free open source remote security scanner. It is used to remotely audit a network and check the network nodes for known security vulnerabilities and incorrect configuration. It is built on a client/server architecture, in which responsibilities are shared between the Nessus server and the Nessus client, and it has a modular design that allows great flexibility in development and usage.
