TCP Wrappers (also known as tcpd) is a special daemon program and a library that can be used to increase the security of insecure network services (such as FTP and telnet). It is started through the Internet superserver (in.inetd) by imposing flexible access control restrictions and logging session information, remote username lookups, and other security measures. Although tcpd does not solve the fundamental security issues present in these services (for example, the absence of encryption and strong authentication), it nevertheless improves their security stand.
