Summary

This chapter introduced the Kerberos network authentication system, along with information on how it works and whether your site would benefit from deploying Kerberos. Differences between the two latest versions of Kerberos, versions 4 and 5, were described. The Sun Enterprise Authentication Mechanism (SEAM), which includes Sun’s implementation of Kerberos 5, was explained. You also got advice on how to configure SEAM/Kerberos 5 client/server software, as well as how to configure the Network File System (NFS) to use Kerberos on systems running the Solaris 8 operating environment.
