Alternatives to Kerberos

In some cases, Secure Remote Procedure Call (Secure RPC) may be thought of as an alternative to Kerberos. The DCE from the Open Software Foundation (now the Open Group) is also an alternative, although it provides much more than just network authentication. A free version of DCE Version 1.2.2 may be downloaded from http://www.opengroup.org/dce. Secure European System for Applications in a Multivendor Environment (SESAME), mentioned earlier in this chapter, is another possible alternative to Kerberos.
