Kerberos and the Network File System (NFS)

If you have Kerberos configured and running, there is no reason why you should not use it with the NFS. Kerberos highly increases NFS security when used correctly due to strong authentication, privacy, and integrity support provided by Kerberos.

Configuring NFS Servers to Use Kerberos

Before you begin configuring the NFS to use Kerberos, your setup should satisfy the following conditions:

  • Kerberos client software is installed and configured on all systems, including NFS server(s) and clients

  • Kerberos servers are configured and running
