What Does Kerberos Mean?

In Greek mythology, Kerberos (or Cerberus in Latin) was a three-headed dog that guarded the entrance to the underworld, where the souls of the dead lived. However, it is difficult to say what exactly the designers of Kerberos meant when they named their software after that creature.
