Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM)

The Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM) framework is an integral part of the Solaris 8 operating environment. PAM brings flexibility and modularity in terms of both configuration and use. It also provides an easily extensible platform for third-party authentication services, such as the Distributed Computing Environment (DCE). In Solaris 8, the PAM framework consists of three parts: the PAM library, the PAM configuration file, and the PAM modules.
