Dial-Up Passwords
Using a Solaris 8 feature known as dial-up passwords, you can add one more step of authentication to increase the security of dial-up access. When dial-up passwords are enabled, the system asks for a shell-specific password to be supplied after the regular UNIX authentication. To configure dial-up passwords, you need to create two configuration files: /etc/dialups and /etc/d_passwd.
/etc/dialups
Documented in dialups(4), /etc/dialups contains a list of dial-up port devices, one per line. Device names might differ from system to system, but if you are using the standard serial ports, the devices would be named /dev/term/a and /dev/term/b, and the file would contain only two lines:
/dev/term/a /dev/term/b
/etc/d_passwd
