Patches and Maintenance Updates
After a fresh installation is the right time to install the latest maintenance update (MU) and appropriate patches. Both MUs and patches are available for free download from Sun Microsystems’ web site at sunsolve.sun.com. For a newly installed system, you have to download and install at least the Recommended & Security Patches cluster for your platform (SPARC or Intel). These patches may be considered the minimum patch level all sites must have. They are available as compressed tarballs and come with an easy-to-use installation script that installs all applicable patches in one session.
