Privileges
Privileges may be thought of as exceptions to rules. In other words, a privilege grants a right that is otherwise generally not given to a particular user, role, or application. Many sets of privileges are provided by Trusted Solaris 8. Among them are such privileges as filesystem, network, and process categories of privileges. Privileges are also used to enforce the previously mentioned principle of least rights—giving only as much as necessary to perform the required task and no more. Compare this to unlimited rights of the superuser on standard Solaris 8.
