Chapter Nine. Motives and Expectations

As we explore our relationships with others, we soon realize that many of our differences are not readily apparent. Without looking past the superficial and seeing these internal distinctions, we are often challenged to make sense of what we see.

In this chapter, we explore the nature of how our unique set of motives drives our behaviors. We also identify techniques to bring these unspoken motives to the surface. In exposing these elements, we may gain a better appreciation of how our expectations can color what each of us sees in the same situation, and how diversity can create a better, more robust solution.
