ANTIPATTERN: TECHNICALITY

PROBLEM

People are categorized as technical or nontechnical, and technical is seen as “better.”

Highly technical matters are the daily work of some part of a team. Discerning who is and who is not competent to participate in these technical discussions and decisions requires good personal judgment. An excessive emphasis on technical issues and skills, however, causes team problems to be labeled as “technical” problems, and promotes a hierarchy of values based on technical proficiency.

In a team suffering from Technicality, the following characteristics are notable:
