About the Author

Carlos Andre Reis Pinheiro started to work in business intelligence and analytical environments in 1998, when he developed independent data marts for operations processes in a Brazilian worldwide shipping company.

In 1999 and 2000, he modeled and implemented the database marketing for Embratel, the largest long-distance telecommunications company in Brazil at that time.

At the end of 2000, he finished his master’s degree in computer science at Fluminense Federal University, creating a digital library for research based on Web warehousing concepts. At the same time, he moved to Brasil Telecom to join the data warehouse group, participating in all development stages, including ETL, data modeling, and the construction of data marts and multidimensional bases. In 2002, he created the Data Mining group at Brasil Telecom, developing analytical models for marketing, sales, insolvency, bad debt, collection, and fraud. The data mining infrastructure was completely based on SAS. In 2003, he started a revenue assurance group inside IT, implementing a world-class fraud management system, a credit risk process, and revenue assurance monitoring throughout the entire value chain.

In 2005, he finished his doctorate in computing at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, creating a topology for the neural network model in order to predict insolvency in telecommunications.
