One of the most common goals for social media practitioners is increasing traffic to a website. For others, however, it isn't so much about driving traffic to the website as it is about getting your content seen. If your goal is to get the content in front of as many people as possible, you need to broaden your thinking beyond your website. Indeed, even if your goal is driving traffic to your site, getting eyes on your content has an indirect value.

The web is increasingly about sharing and repurposing content. So many sites are willing — even eager — to publish your content that it's very easy to get your content in front of people, assuming that you're willing put your content on sites other than your own. If you're willing to release your content under generous licensing terms, you also open the possibility for your content to be reused and mashed up.
