Crazy Egg, shown in Figure 22-12, is a service that brings eye-tracking metrics to the everyday user. Normally you’d have to hire out to a lab that specializes in eye tracking and heat mapping at a high cost to get this data, but Crazy Egg offers similar data with plans starting at just $9 a month and up. All plans have the first month free.
Crazy Egg generates a variety of reports for your site:
Heatmap tracks where folks click on your site.
Scrollmap shows how far down a page people scroll to get information as well as the point of abandonment.
Overlay shows you clicks by element.
Confetti shows the clicks by segmentation.
While hiring out to a lab may give you more detailed eye metrics using cameras and other tools, Crazy Egg is the next best thing.
