Bargaining for Quick Solutions
As you embark on tracking your data, beware of one common trap — being distracted by supposed “easy metrics” solutions and fly-by-night page view and follower count schemes and the like. Some solutions (for example, Radian6 or CustomScoop) automate a significant portion of your metrics tracking and can help you track specific things, if you have the means to purchase them. But not all metrics tracking tools are created equal, and easy and fast usually come at a price. Be wary of bargaining with your data and results for quick solutions that may not produce valuable data.
Even if you use Radian6, CustomScoop, Mint (see Figure 5-3), or other solid, proven paid solutions, nothing takes the place of also tracking your own metrics using your own tools, such as Google Analytics. Having multiple tracking solutions in play makes sure that you’re getting all types of data through all funnels and don’t miss a trick when it comes to ensuring that you’re getting the most out of your time and energy spent online.
