Setting Up Shop on foursquare

A brand can use foursquare in a number of different ways. Just as with Twitter and Facebook, how you use foursquare should really depend on your brand, the business you’re in, and what you’re trying to accomplish. There’s no single way to use foursquare that all brands must follow.

However, before you can get into some of the more innovative ways of using foursquare for your social media marketing efforts, here are a few things you must do:

check.png Set up your brand page on foursquare.

Borrowing from both Facebook and Twitter, foursquare allows brands to create their own pages on www.foursquare.com, as shown in Figure 10-1. After you’ve created a brand page, other users can follow your brand on it. Users who follow your brand can see the tips you place at specific locations.

check.png Claim your physical location.

If you’re a merchant with a physical store location, you can claim the location (with foursquare verification) and then run specials for your customers, whether you are a restaurant, a hotel, or a shop. Specials, which are typically discounts or special offers, serve as another way to attract foursquare users into your specific venue to buy merchandise from you.
