Thou Shalt Not Spam (on Social Networks)

One advertiser’s marketing may easily be deemed social media spam if carefully spelled-out rules are not followed. The price for spamming on a social network is much more than simply the risk of losing the privilege of having an account on a social network. While spamming is an offense that can quickly get a business’s social media account suspended, that sanction pales in comparison with the other sanctions that can be meted out against a business that simply doesn’t know the rules governing electronic and wireless communications with consumers.

Know that social networks are getting much better at identifying and combating spammers—and much more aggressive about bringing them to court.
