This book’s title doesn’t include the word marketing, which is traditionally the act of promoting your business and selling your products or services. Instead, this book is more about the new media style of marketing via the social web. Conceptually, this is a 180-degree turnaround from customary practices of hitting the customer and hitting them hard. Now our goal is to develop a community with our customers.

Developing a community enhances your relationships with your local customers and also expedites your outreach to extend your customer base across the Internet. Broadening your customer base in this fashion is not only desirable but profitable.
